COLOMBO (News 1st); Former Minister of Women, Child Affairs, and Dry Zone Development, Chandrani Bandara, was formally indicted today (6) before the Colombo High Court on charges of corruption during her tenure under the previous Yahapalana government.
The indictment was presented before High Court Judge Adithya Patabendige.
Former Minister Bandara is accused of misusing her ministerial authority by appointing H.M. Chandrawansa as Project Director of the Dry Zone Development without following proper procedures, and of influencing the appointment of several close associates to various positions in violation of public service regulations.
The charges fall under the Bribery Act and allege that these actions constitute the offence of “corruption.”
Following the indictment, the court granted Bandara bail on two personal sureties of Rs. 1 million each. The case is scheduled to be taken up again on May 20, 2025
