COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka President Anura Kumara Dissanayake met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence of Australia, Richard Marles, at the Presidential Secretariat this morning (2) to discuss the deepening of bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Australia.
The meeting focused on strengthening the historic ties between the two nations, with particular emphasis on enhancing cooperation in trade, security, governance, and investment.
President Dissanayake briefed the Australian delegation on Sri Lanka’s progress toward economic stability and the government’s ongoing anti-corruption and anti-fraud initiatives. He also expressed gratitude for Australia’s continued support in maritime security operations and its assistance in combating illegal trade, human trafficking, terrorism, and arms smuggling.
“Sri Lanka remains a secure and attractive destination for tourism and investment,” the President affirmed.
Deputy Prime Minister Marles acknowledged the 70-year economic and political relationship between the two countries and reiterated Australia’s commitment to working closely with Sri Lanka’s new administration. He praised the government’s reform agenda .
