Immigration Dept. Ends 24-Hour Passport Service

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Immigration and Emigration has announced a revision to its one-day passport issuance service, effective from Monday, June 2, 2025.

According to a media release issued today, the 24-hour one-day passport service, which has been in effect since February 18, 2025, will conclude on May 30, 2025.

Starting June 2, passport applications under the one-day service will be accepted at the Department’s Head Office in Battaramulla from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.This applies to both applicants who have pre-booked appointments and those with urgent or priority needs.

Additionally, the department confirmed that:


- Normal service applications will also be accepted at the Head Office during the same hours.

- Both normal and one-day services will continue to be available at regional offices from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., as previously scheduled.
