COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo Grand Mosque has officially announced that the Hajj Festival (Eid al-Adha) will be celebrated in Sri Lanka on Friday, June 7, 2025, following the sighting of the crescent.

Muslims across the country are expected to gather for special prayers, charitable acts, and traditional celebrations on that day.

Hajj is one of the five Pillars of Islam, which form the basic foundations of a Muslim’s beliefs. Every Muslim is expected to undertake the pilgrimage at least once in their lives if they have physical and financial capacity.

Each year, millions of Muslims from across the world travel to and perform Hajj in Makkah, modern day Saudi Arabia.

As one of the five pillars of Islam, the purpose of Hajj for Muslims means fulfilling spiritual duties to Allah (SWT) and showing submission to Him.
