COLOMBO (News 1st); Colombo High Court Judge Sujeewa Nishshanka has ordered a medical examination for Nadun Chinthaka Wickramaratne, also known as 'Harak Kata,' a notorious drug trafficker currently detained at Tangalle Prison.

The examination is to be conducted by the Tangalle judicial medical officer or a designated medical professional, with a report to be submitted to the court.

During the court proceedings, 'Harak Kata' revealed that he has been suffering from multiple health issues, including hemorrhoids, for a considerable period and has not received adequate medical treatment. He requested the court to issue an order for proper medical care.

Judge Nishshanka acknowledged the severity of the situation, stating that the pain experienced by an individual due to health conditions is felt solely by them. Consequently, he directed the Director of the Terrorist Investigation Division to ensure a detailed report on 'Harak Kata's health status is presented to the court.

Representing 'Harak Kata,' President's Counsel Kapila Waidyaratne highlighted that his client has been under detention for several years under the Prevention of Terrorism Act. He expressed the intention to file a bail application in the near future, hoping the court would consider it.

The case against 'Harak Kata' involves 22 charges, including conspiracy to escape from the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), aiding and abetting, among others.

The charges also implicate three other individuals, including a former police constable who served in the CID.

In a dramatic turn of events, 'Harak Kata' made several allegations while being transported, claiming that significant expenses were incurred to keep him detained at Tangalle Prison.

He accused high-ranking officials, including Tiran Alles and Deshabandu Tennakoon, of demanding substantial sums of money, which he allegedly failed to provide.

He claims that Rs. 300 Million was demanded from him.
