Voting Underway For 2025 Local Government Elections

COLOMBO (News 1st): The 2025 Local Government Elections have officially begun and will continue until 4 p.m. today.

This election will elect 8,287 members to 339 local government bodies across the country.

A total of 13,759 polling centers have been established islandwide for the voting process.

A total of 17,156,338 voters are eligible to cast their votes in this election.

There are 75,589 candidates contesting, representing 49 recognized political parties and 257 independent groups.
