COLOMBO (News 1st); Court has granted permission to obtain a statement from Member of Parliament Chamara Sampath Dassanayake regarding the phosphate deal that allegedly caused a loss of 2,700 million rupees to the government during the previous administration.
This decision was made after considering the details presented in a B report filed before the court.
The police stated that steps will be taken to obtain the statement from the MP, who is currently in custody, at the prison.
Meanwhile, an individual who acted as an advisor in the transaction has been arrested in Nawala by the Illegal Assets Division of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The arrested individual, Naveen Dhanesh, was found in possession of a small unlicensed pistol, a licensed 9mm pistol with 20 rounds of ammunition, and an SLG Zero 123 repeater firearm during a search of his residence.
Investigations are ongoing into the alleged illegal sale of 30,000 metric tons of rock phosphate by Lanka Phosphate Company to three firms, which reportedly resulted in a loss of approximately 2,700 million rupees to the government.
