Former SLTB Deputy Chairman Released on Bail

COLOMBO (News 1st); L.A. Wimalaratne, the former Deputy Chairman of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB), has been released on bail following his arrest by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). 

Wimalaratne was detained in connection with an investigation into a house allegedly belonging to the Rajapaksa family in Kataragama.

The Tissamaharama Magistrate's Court ordered his release on a personal bond of of Rs.5 million. Additionally, Wimalaratne is required to appear before the CID every six months as part of the bail conditions.

Wimalaratne was arrested at his residence in Mamadala, Ambalantota, earlier today. 

The CID presented evidence in court indicating that Wimalaratne was heavily involved in the construction of the house and that he is being prosecuted under money laundering laws.
