COLOMBO (News 1st); The Election Commission said that the timeline for the Local Government elections will be declared once the refund process for the already deposited bonds is completed.
Chairman R.M.A.L. Ratnayake stated that the refund process will begin within the next two days.
Sri Lanka's Commission is currently facilitating the return of previously deposited bonds to the respective parties and the cancellation of accepted nominations.
This follows the passage of the Local Authorities Elections (Special Provisions) Bill by a significant majority in Parliament yesterday.
The bill, certified by Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, has been forwarded to the Government Printer for publication.
The Election Commission has also officially informed the relevant authorities about the passage of the bill.
Professor Chandana Abeyratne, Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government, stated that the Commission will proceed with the necessary steps for the Local Government elections following this notification.
