Salt Prices Expected to Rise Due to Import Costs

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Chairman of Hambantota Salt Limited, T.K. Nandana Thilaka says that the price of salt will increase this month. 

This price hike is attributed to the increase in costs associated with importing salt from India.

As a result, the price of a 400-gram packet of table salt is expected to rise to Rs. 120, while a one-kilogram packet of granular salt is expected to be sold for Rs. 180. 

The government granted permission to two importers to bring in salt from India following damage to the local salterns due to recent adverse weather conditions.
