Sri Lanka's Date Tax Cut to Rs 1/-, Saudi Arabia Donates for Ramadan

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Finance has issued a special gazette notification reducing the special commodity tax on dates from Rs 200 to Rs 1 per kilogram. 



This tax reduction is effective from today until March 31, 2025.



In a gesture of goodwill, Saudi Arabia has donated 50 metric tons of dates to Sri Lanka for consumption by the Muslim community during the Ramadan fasting period.



Deputy Minister of National Integration, Muneer Mulaffer, confirmed that the shipment has already arrived in the country. The dates will be distributed to Islamic places of worship across the island.
