COLOMBO (News 1st); The National Building Research Organization advises motorists to be cautious while driving on mountainous roads during the heavy rains.
Senior Geologist of the National Building Research Organization, Wasantha Senadheera said that due to the recent heavy rains, a risk of rockslides and landslides along the main roads in mountainous areas has arisen.
The Kandy-Mahinganiya road was temporarily closed until 6 AM today, from the Thannekumbura Junction to the Hasalaka Bridge Junction.
This closure has been in effect since 6 PM yesterday.
Police said that the closure is due to the risk of landslides and rock falls from the upper hills of Kahatagolla, caused by the ongoing heavy rains.
