COLOMBO (News 1st) - Excise duty on alcohol has been increased by 6 percent effective today.
Ministry of Finance has issued an extraordinary gazette in this regard.
The new rates specify that the price of a 750 ml bottle of liquor will rise by at least Rs. 106.
Additionally, the price of other types of alcohol will increase by 5 percent.
The Ceylon Tobacco Company has also raised cigarette prices, following the excise duty hike.
Price adjustments have been made across four categories, leading to an increase of Rs. 5 to Rs. 10 per cigarette.
