COLOMBO (News 1st); The Appropriation Bill for the year 2025 was presented to Parliament today.
The government has estimated an expenditure of Rs 4,616 billion for the period from January 1st to December 31st.
The largest allocation for 2025 is designated for the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, amounting to Rs 713 billion.
The Ministry of Defense has been allocated Rs 442 billion.
The Ministry of Health and Media has been allocated Rs 507 billion.
The Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation has been allocated Rs 473.4 billion.
The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs has been allocated Rs 406 billion, while the Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development has been allocated Rs 399.16 billion.
The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government has been allocated Rs 496 billion.
The Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Training has been allocated Rs 271 billion.
The Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs has been allocated Rs 175 billion, while the Ministry of Justice and National Integration has been allocated Rs 54 billion.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land, and Irrigation has been allocated Rs 207 billion.
Under the Special Expenditure Unit, the President's Operational Program has been allocated Rs 2.5 billion for recurrent expenses and Rs 354 billion for capital expenses.
Rs 120 million has been allocated for development programs.
The Prime Minister's Office has been allocated Rs 72 billion for operational programs.
The second reading of the Appropriation Bill is scheduled for February 17th.
The debate on the second reading will be held from February 18th to 25th, with the vote on the second reading taking place on the afternoon of February 25th.
The committee stage debate, also known as the third reading of the budget, is scheduled to be held from February 27th to March 21st, with the vote taking place on March 21st.
