COLOMBO (News 1st): The Department of Examinations has announced that the paper marking for the Grade 5 scholarship exam will be conducted from the 8th to the 12th of January.
Commissioner General of Examinations Amith Jayasundara stated that steps will be taken to release the results promptly.
He further stated that meetings of the chief examiners will be held today and tomorrow.
During these meetings, discussions will be held regarding the marking procedures and other related matters.
Following the controversy surrounding the scholarship examination, a decision was made recently to award free marks to all candidates for three questions from the first question paper, which were allegedly leaked prior to the examination.
The Supreme Court announced its ruling on the 31st of December, citing the 3 options of awarding free marks for the 3 questions allegedly leaked, annulling those questions and conducting a re-examination, and directed the Commissioner General of Examinations to choose the most suitable recommendation and implement it immediately.
The Department of Examinations, in its announcement on the January 1st, stated that after carefully studying the potential positive and negative impacts of each recommendation, the most just and appropriate solution would be to award free marks for the three questions, to all candidates.
The Department also mentioned that the marking will be completed promptly, and the results will be released without delay.
