Over 8,500 Police Officers Deployed to Manage Traffic During Festive Season

COLOMBO (News 1st); The police have deployed more than 8,500 traffic officers to control the heavy traffic congestion during the festive season.

Director and Media Spokesperson of the Police Media Division Senior Superintendent of Police Buddhika Manatunga said that inspections are being conducted by the Highway Patrol Division and at the entrances to highways.

He also mentioned that the primary focus of these inspections is to search for drunk drivers.

The day before yesterday, legal action was launched against 251 drunk drivers.

SSP Buddhika Manthunga further mentioned that this action was taken under the guidance of the Acting Inspector General of Police as part of a special traffic operation.
