Police Officer Arrested for Bribery in Negombo

COLOMBO (News 1st) - An Officer In Charge of the Criminal Investigation unit attached to the office of the superintendent of police in Negombo has been arrested for soliciting a bribe over a dispute involving a vehicle. 

The officer allegedly demanded an air conditioner worth Rs. 270,000 as a bribe to facilitate the court's return of the vehicle to its owner.

The police was apprehended while attempting to transfer funds to the account of the air conditioning shop owner. 

The suspect is to be produced before the Negombo Magistrate's Court.
