COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka says that a revision of electricity tariffs is unlikely to occur this year.
This is due to repeated requests from the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) for extensions to submit a new tariff revision proposal.
The Public Utilities Commission further says that the CEB has formally requested an additional two weeks to prepare the new proposal.
The new proposal was originally scheduled to be submitted yesterday.
Earlier, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka informed the CEB that the reduction percentages proposed in the initial tariff revision plan were insufficient.
In that context, the PUCSL indicated that, based on the prevailing conditions, it would be possible to implement greater tariff reductions than those initially proposed.
As a result, the CEB was given two weeks from the 8th of November to prepare a new proposal.
Although the revised proposal was due yesterday, the CEB has formally communicated that they require an additional two weeks to complete it, according to the Public Utilities Commission.
In light of this situation, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka emphasizes that a revision of electricity tariffs this year appears unlikely.
