10th Parliament to Convene on November 21

COLOMBO (News 1st) - 10th Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka will Convene for the first time on November 21.

On that day, the main responsibilities of the Parliament will be with the Secretary General of Parliament. 

Notably, there will be no specific allocation of seats for members during the first session, allowing MPs to sit wherever they choose.

Parliamentary proceedings will commence after the mace is brought to the chamber.

The first order of business will be the election of the new Speaker, followed by the traditional swearing-in of the Speaker.

Subsequently, the MPs would also be sworn in.

The National People's Power emerged victorious in the parliamentary election winning a total of 159 seats, that includes 18 National List seats.

Samagi Jana Balawegaya followed with a total of 40 seats, which includes 5 National List seats. 

Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi won 8 seats, which includes one National List seat.

New Democratic Front, secured 5 seats, that includes 2 National List seats.

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna managed to win 2 seats in the election, with 1 National List seat. 

The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress secured 3 seats in the 10th Parliament, including 1 National List seat. 

Sarvajana Balaya also won a National List seat in this election.

United National Party won a single seat in the 10th Parliament.

Democratic Tamil National Alliance, the All Ceylon Tamil Congress, the All Ceylon People's Congress, and Ceylon Workers Congress, all secured 1 seat each.

Independent group - 17 from Jaffna, also won 1 seat in the parliament.
