COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has highlighted the daily challenges the government faces due to the arbitrary decisions made by former ministers.
Speaking at a public meeting in Kotte yesterday, she emphasized the need for systematic and policy-driven governance to address these issues.
In her address, Prime Minister Amarasuriya stated, "Every day, we are dealing with the distortions and problems caused by the arbitrary decisions of individual ministers. While we agree that public sector salaries need to be increased, there is a proper way to do it within the budget framework, ensuring that these distortions do not lead to further crises."
She criticized the lack of coordination and foresight in past governance, where ministers operated their sectors like independent kingdoms without considering the broader impact on society. "Education was one kingdom, health was another, and there was no vision of working together for the country," she remarked.
Amarasuriya noted that the current administration is working towards a systematic change, ensuring that decisions are made cohesively and consistently. "Now, when we have meetings, government officials say it is much easier because we have interconnections and we all speak the same language, avoiding contradictory decisions," she added.
The Prime Minister called for the election of policy-respecting individuals to positions, emphasizing the importance of integrity in governance.
"We request that policy-making positions be filled with those who respect policies, legal positions with those who respect the law, and financial management positions with those who are not corrupt. This power is in your hands," she added.
