COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Trade has announced the initiation of an investigation to determine whether rice is being released to the market at controlled prices.
According to the ministry's secretary, M.M. Naimudeen, officials from the Consumer Affairs Authority have begun district-level inspections to ensure compliance.
During a recent discussion with the President, rice mill owners agreed to release Nadu rice to the market at a price of Rs. 218 per kilogram.
Consequently, the secretary stated that it is now possible to sell Nadu rice in the market at a price of Rs. 220 per kilogram.
The Ministry of Trade emphasized that legal action will be taken against those found selling rice above the controlled price.
