Supreme Court to Decide on Vanni Nomination Dispute

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Supreme Court has scheduled a review for tomorrow on a petition filed by the Democratic National Alliance.

The petition is seeking a writ order to nullify the decision made by the District Returning Officer to reject their nomination paper for the Vanni District in the upcoming parliamentary elections on November 14.

The petition was brought before a bench comprising Justices Preethi Padman Surasena, Shiran Gunaratne, and Arjuna Obeysekera.

Additional Solicitor General Sumathi Dharmawardena, representing the respondents, requested the court for time to obtain instructions from the Election Commission and present the necessary details.

Considering this request, the bench decided to take up the petition tomorrow.

The petition was filed by Pararajasingham Udayarasa, an authorized officer of the party, along with two other candidates.
