COLOMBO (News 1st); A progress review meeting, chaired by President Ranil Wickremesinghe, revealed significant success in controlling the mosquito-borne disease 'Dengue' in the Western and Central Provinces.
This achievement is attributed to comprehensive dengue control and awareness programs, with a strong focus on Medical Officer of Health (MoH) divisions.
The meeting at the President's Office acknowledged the need to shift attention to new battlegrounds. Districts like Jaffna, Trincomalee, and Batticaloa emerged as key targets due to higher reported dengue cases, particularly around government institutions, schools, religious sites, public spaces, and private establishments.
Recognizing the importance of targeted interventions, the meeting concluded with a decisive step for the establishment of an operational unit directly supervised by the Ministry of Health.
