Electric Fence to Contain 'Agbo' Elephant

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lankan Department of Wildlife has announced the construction of an electric fence surrounding Ulagalla Wewa, where the injured elephant Agbo is currently residing.

This decision comes after reports of significant agricultural losses caused by Agbo's foraging activities.

While not aimed at harming the elephant, the electric fence is intended to deter it from venturing into nearby farmlands, safeguarding both farmers' livelihoods and Agbo's safety.

The Wildlife Department further emphasized the ongoing recovery of Agbo's bullet wound on its left leg.
