Historic Win: Anura Kumara Dissanayake Declared President of Sri Lanka

COLOMBO (News 1st); Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the Leader of the National People's Power, has been officially declared the winner of the 2024 Presidential Election of Sri Lanka. He will become the 9th Executive President of the Country.

The announcement was made by the Election Commission earlier this evening, in the presence of all the candidates who contested the polls.

The declaration came after the election proceeded to a second count, as no candidate secured an absolute majority in the initial tally.

In the first count, AKD secured 5,634,915 votes, with Sajith Premadasa & Ranil Wickremesinghe securing 4,363,035 votes and 2,299,767 votes respectively.
