Navy takes hold of approx. 470kg smuggled dried turmeric

COLOMBO (News 1st): A search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy in the beach area of Serakkuliya, Puttalam yesterday led to the seizure of approx. 470kg (wet weight) of smuggled dried turmeric.

Personnel from the Rapid Action Boat Squadron in the Northwestern Naval Command recovered 14 sacks of dried turmeric hidden away in shrubs in the beach vicinity of Serakkuliya. The sacks of dried turmeric, believed to have been smuggled via sea routes, weighed approx. 470kg (wet weight).

The stock of dried turmeric has been kept in the custody of the Navy until onward legal action gets underway.
