Security Deposit Deadline Approaches for Candidates

COLOMBO (News 1st); As Sri Lanka gears up for the presidential election, the Election Commission has confirmed that 32 candidates have made their security deposits thus far.

The deadline for the remaining presidential hopefuls to deposit their security money is looming, with the cutoff time set for 12 noon tomorrow.

The Chairman of the Election Commission, R.M.A.L. Ratnayake said that nominations will be officially accepted on Thursday, and a specific timeframe from 9 am to 11.30 am has been allocated for any objections to the nominations to be raised.

Following the protest period, independent candidates and those from various parties will be assigned their symbols.

Ratnayake also highlighted that within five days, candidates and their authorized representatives are expected to engage in preliminary activities concerning the regulatory acts, which includes setting the campaign expenditure limits for each candidate.

With the security deposit process still underway, Ratnayake urges any candidates who have yet to complete this step to do so at the earliest opportunity, before the deadline on the 14th of this month at 12 noon.
