The Election Commission announced that the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security, Viyani Gunathilaka, has agreed to provide the necessary police officers for the upcoming Presidential Election.
This decision comes after discussions held between Gunathilaka and the Election Commission Chairman, R.M.A.L. Rathnayake.
Yesterday, the Election Commission sent a formal letter to the President, seeking a solution to the issue related to the Inspector General of Police's role in organizing the election.
In response, the President's Secretary instructed Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security, Viyani Gunathilaka to coordinate the deployment of police officers to ensure election security.
Accordingly, the Election Commission had informed the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security, Viyani Gunathilaka to be present at the Election Secretariat for talks.
On Wednesday (31), the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security confirmed that the President granted special permission for collaboration with the Election Commission regarding police deployment for the Presidential Election.
