Colombo (News 1st): Speaking to reporters on Tuesday (30), Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna MP Namal Rajapaksa emphasized that the selection of their presidential candidate hinges on strengthening the party's collective goals rather than elevating any individual.

Namal Rajapaksa said, "All parties have their perspectives, and through discussions with stakeholders, we aim to arrive at a consensus."

He highlighted that SLPP's longstanding opposition to the UNP remains steadfast, indicating continuity in their approach for the 2024 presidential election.

He stressed the importance of prioritizing national interests over mere negotiations between parties, dismissing any notions to the contrary.

Responding to questions about internal party dynamics, Rajapaksa acknowledged differing viewpoints within the SLPP ranks. Regarding his own role and that of younger members in the party, Rajapaksa underscored the value of senior leadership experience. "While younger members like myself may lack certain insights, our seniors bring invaluable experience to the table," he said.

Looking ahead, Namal Rajapaksa affirmed SLPP's commitment to advancing their policies and agenda. When pressed on potential shifts in stance concerning the presidential candidate selection, he reiterated, "Our decision revolves around choosing policies we believe in, not merely promoting any single individual."

Addressing recent expressions of personal opinions by some members, Rajapaksa dismissed their significance in shaping party decisions. "Individual opinions are separate from our collective direction," he added.
