Gnanasara Thero Granted Bail by Court of Appeal

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Court of Appeal ordered to release on bail Ven. Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thero, the General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena organization today, upon concluding the examination of his revision petition. 

The Court of Appeal bench led by Justice Sampath Abeykoon, set the bail at 50,000 rupees in cash and two personal sureties amounting to 500,000 rupees each. 

This decision comes in the wake of Ven. Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thero's sentencing on March 28th by the Colombo High Court to a four-year term of rigorous imprisonment.

The charges pertained to the disruption of national and religious harmony stemming from remarks made during a 2016 press conference in Colombo.
