Day 57 For University Non-Academic Strike

COLOMBO (News 1st); The strike initiated by non-academic employees of universities is still in progress, having reached its 57th day.

These workers are protesting a 15 percent reduction in their salaries and the absence of any increase in their monthly allowances.

Dhammika S. Priyantha, Co-Chairman of the Joint Committee Of University Trade Unions, emphasized that the University Grants Commission chairman and relevant ministers should intervene positively in accordance with the existing agreements to address this issue.

In addition to the strike, a satyagraha (nonviolent protest) commenced in front of several universities.
