Several Public Sector Employees To Engage In Widespread Trade Union Action

COLOMBO (News 1st): Several public sector employees will engage in trade union actions today, due to various unresolved issues, primarily concerning salaries.

Education and Non-Academic Employees Union, led by Secretary Ajith K Tillakaratne, announced island-wide union action by non-academic school staff starting today, based on several demands.

Meanwhile, the University Trade Union Joint Committee has announced a discussion between the University non-academic employees who are currently on strike, and the State Salary Committee, scheduled for tomorrow.

Co-Chairman of the University Trade Union Joint Committee, Dhammika S. Priyantha says that he hopes for a positive resolution following the discussion.

Their strike follows a 55-day failed strike and a current 5-day long "Satyagraha". A protest by the University non-academic employees is also planned in Colombo due to lack of progress on their demands.

School Development Officers are 15 days into their Satyagraha protest underway opposite Colombo Fort railway station.

The National Organizer of the Principals' Service Union, Sisira Rajapakshe, warned of union action starting from Wednesday (June 26) onwards, if their demands remain unmet.

Executive Member of the Joint Committee of Government Executives, Sampath Deshapriya said that the Joint Committee of Government Executives is planning a two-day sick leave protest today and tomorrow.

Chairman of the Sri Lanka Administrative Services Association, Mahesh Gammanpila said that the Sri Lanka Administrative Services Association will launch a trade union action tomorrow and on Wednesday, citing various concerns, including salary anomalies.

President of the Government Surveyors' Association, Duminda Udugoda said that their ongoing trade union action will further continue due to unresolved demands.
