COLOMBO (News1st); University non-academic staff launched a satyagraha campaign opposite state universities on Wednesday (19).
Co-Chairman of the University Trade Union Joint Committee Dhammika S. Priyantha said the satyagraha campaign was launched against the failure to provide favourable solutions to their demands.
Wednesday (19) marks 48 days of the indefinite strike launched by university non-academic staff.
The strike was launched demanding the agreed monthly allowance and the provision of the 15 percent salary cut in 2016.
The University Grants Commission said it doesn't have the authority to resolve the issue regarding salaries and allowances of non-academic staff.
UGC chairman Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunge said representatives of the non-academic trade unions were informed of this on Tuesday (18).
Despite the strike launched by non-academic staff, the lecturers have been informed to commence lectures for the next term in all universities.
The lectures are scheduled to be held online.
