24 Dead, 16 Injured as Sri Lanka Battles Devastating Weather; Over 200,000 Affected

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Disaster Management Centre says that 5,162 people belonging to 1,288 families, who have been affected by disaster situations arisen due to the adverse weather, have been relocated to 83 relief camps.

A total of 206,203 people belonging to 54,569 families have been affected by the adverse weather that prevailed over the past 13 days.

The DMC says that 24 deaths and 16 injured have been reported islandwide.

60 houses have been completely destroyed due to heavy rains and associated disasters.

The DMC says that 5,348 houses have been partially damaged.

Meanwhile, the landslide early warning issued by the National Building Research Organization will be in effect until this evening.

The warning covers divisional secretariats of the Kalutara, Colombo, Galle, Kegalle, Ratnapura and Matara districts.
