COLOMBO (News1st); Sri Lanka Railways said 11 short-distance trains were canceled on Friday (07) morning due to the train operators' strike.
Railway Traffic Superintendent M.J. Indipolage said a majority of them were office trains
A group of train operators launched the strike at midnight on Thursday (06), based on several issues including the failure to provide a salary code, promotions, and recruitment.
Accordingly, they withdrew from services at two railway stations in Colombo.
Sri Lanka Railways said some short-distance trains may have to be canceled in the evening.
Indipolage said the strike has not affected long-distance train journeys.
However, people were severely burdened due to the strike action this morning.
