COLOMBO (News 1st); Dr. Sarath Amunugama, a prominent figure within the Mawbima Janatha Party, has tendered his resignation.
Amunugama confirmed that he formally communicated his decision to the party’s leader, Dilith Jayaweera, yesterday.
Notably, no specific reason was provided for this significant departure.
Incidentally, 24 hours earlier, leader of the Mawbima Janatha Pakshaya, entrepreneur Dilith Jayaweera inked a policy agreement with several political groups in Colombo to launch the 'Sarva Jana Balaya.'
MP Wimal Weerawansa for the National Freedom Front, D. V. D. Thilakasiri for the Democratic Leftist Front, MP Udaya Gammanpila for the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya, G. Weerasinghe for the Communist Party of Sri Lanka, and Gevindu Kumaratunga for the Yuthukama National Organization signed the agreement.
Furthermore, MP Channa Jayasumana singed the agreement on behalf of the Independent MPs Forum, and entrepreneur Dilith Jayaweera signed the agreement as the Leader of the Mawbima Janatha Pakshaya.
A 10-point agreement was inked under the theme 'එක්ව නංවන රටක් – සතුටු පිරුණු දැයක්’ which losely translates to 'A country that rises united - A happy nation'.
