Vehicle Import Scheme for Retired Officials

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lankan government has introduced a concessionary vehicle import permit program for retired government and judicial officials.

Retired government officials, provincial government officials, and judicial officials, are eligible for this program.

Under this scheme, senior officials who have completed 60 years of age or were sent into compulsory retirement without an extension are eligible to obtain vehicle import permits at reduced duty rates.

The decision to grant vehicle import permits for retired senior government officials was made during a Cabinet meeting held on March 11.

Furthermore, there has been notable advocacy from members of parliament and ministers urging the speaker to consider facilitating the importation of duty-free vehicles for them as well.
