COLOMBO (News 1st); Colombo High Court Judge Navaratne Marasinghe issued a ruling today, acquitting former minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage in a bribery case.
The case, brought forward by the Commission To Investigate Allegations Of Bribery Or Corruption, centered around Aluthgamage's involvement in the purchase of a luxurious house on Kinsey Road in Borella, using Rs. 27.4 Million Rupees.
Judge Marasinghe emphasized that the plaintiff, Wasantha Samarasinghe, was not called as a witness during the prosecution.
Furthermore, he noted that the prosecution failed to establish that the funds used for the purchase were illegally obtained by the defendant.
As a result, the judge rendered his verdict, acquitting the accused based on the presumption of innocence.
