Shortage of anesthesiologists and pediatricians continues

COLOMBO (News1st); The Ministry of Health said there is still a shortage of anesthesiologists and pediatricians.

Secretary to the Ministry of Health Dr. Palitha Mahipala said many specialists have migrated, while another group has left for overseas training.

The Health Secretary added however that some doctors who left for overseas training are returning.

Patients at the Hambantota and Embilipitiya hospitals have been inconvenienced in recent days due to the lack of specialist doctors.

Dr. Mahipala said although many nurses also left for overseas employment, hospital services are not disrupted due to new recruitments.
