COLOMBO (News 1st); Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the leader of the Jathika Jana Balavegaya, emphasized the critical need for a strong foreign policy in Sri Lanka.

Speaking to a gathering in Vancouver, Canada, Dissanayake said that Sri Lanka’s foreign relations have lacked the robustness required for effective global engagement.

He said that some of Sri Lanka's leaders were influenced by foreign interests, compromising national sovereignty.

Decisions were often driven by financial gains, rather than the long-term benefit to the nation, he noted.

Dissanayake asserted that Sri Lanka cannot be bought or swayed, adding that the country’s foreign policy must prioritize national interest above all else.

He went on to note that Sri Lanka finds itself in the crosshairs of world power competition, adding that the country foreign policy goal should be to avoid becoming a battleground for external power struggles.
