COLOMBO (News 1st) - Deputy Speaker Ajith Rajapakse says that the respective parties have been notified to nominate other MPs for the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE), replacing the slots left vacant following the recent string of resignations.
He points out that the notification makes no mention of the measures taken in response to the resignations of the re-appointed COPE members.
He says that this is the first time such a situation has happened in the COPE.
He says that the measures will be discussed in the future.
So far, 10 MPs have resigned from the COPE over the recent appointment of Rohitha Abeygunawardena to the post of Chairman.
Accordingly, MPs Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Duminda Dissanayake, and Wasantha Yapa Bandara, S. M. Marikkar, Eran Wickramaratne, Shanakiyan Rasamanickam, Professor Charitha Herath, Dayasiri Jayasekera, Gamini Waleboda, and Hesha Vithanage resigned from COPE.
