COLOMBO (News 1st); The primary suspect involved in the murder of a monk in Malthuhirtipitiya has been apprehended in the Hambegamuwa area.
The suspect, identified as a 27-year-old resident of Aralaganwila, was taken into custody following a mobile operation conducted by law enforcement authorities last night.
According police, the suspect was detained on suspicion of failing to verify his identity during the aforementioned operation in the Hambegamuwa locality.
Subsequent interrogation of the suspect led to revelations linking him to the shooting incident that occurred in Malthuhirtipitiya.
Notably, the arrest of the main suspect follows the apprehension of the driver of the car used by the assailants during the shooting.
Additionally, a woman believed to be associated with the incident, along with several other individuals, has been taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
On January 23rd, a group of four assailants, who had arrived in a car, shot dead a Buddhist monk inside the temple in the Malwathuhiripitiya area of Gampaha.
