COLOMBO (News 1st); In a major operation, Sri Lanka's Ministry of Public Security announced the arrest of 1,017 suspects over a 24-hour period ending at 12:30 am today (19).
The arrests were made as part of the ongoing "Yukthiya Operation" campaign focused on curbing crime and illegal activities.
Among the apprehended individuals, 903 were suspected of involvement in drug-related offenses.
This figure includes 11 individuals identified as high-priority targets by the Police Narcotics Bureau and the Police Special Bureau.
Additionally, 77 suspects were deemed in need of rehabilitation and will be directed to appropriate centers.
Authorities also apprehended 114 individuals wanted on various criminal charges and previously listed for arrest.
The operation yielded a significant seizure of illegal drugs, including heroin, ice, ganja, and Mawa pills.
