Online Safety Bill Sparks No-Confidence Motion Against Sri Lankan Speaker

COLOMBO (News 1st); Professor G. L. Peiris, representing the joint opposition in the Sri Lankan Parliament, announced their intention to file a no-confidence motion against the speaker. This move comes amidst concerns about the conduct of the speaker and the passing of the Online Safety Bill.

Professor Peiris, expressed dissatisfaction with the Online Safety Bill, stating that it did not adhere to proper legal procedures. He further criticized the speaker's conduct, calling it "disgraceful" and accusing him of violating the constitution and parliamentary standing orders while passing certain legislation.

Responding to a question about potential action against the speaker, Professor Peiris confirmed the planned no-confidence motion. He emphasized the urgency of this action, stating that continued acceptance of the speaker's alleged conduct would amount to "betraying the country."
