838 suspects apprehended in the past 24 hours under Operation Yukthiya

COLOMBO (News 1st); A total of 838 suspects have been apprehended in the past 24 hours that ended at 12.30 am today under Operation Yukthiya.

The number of suspects arrested for drug offences among them is 549.

289 suspects who were on the list of wanted persons prepared by the Police Narcotics Bureau and Special Bureau have also been apprehended. 

Police say that they seized 16 kilograms and 600 grams of ganja, 211 grams of heroin, 78 grams of ice, and 1,192 narcotic pills during the operation.

05 suspects in connection with drug offences are to be further investigated on detention orders while 10 drug addicts were referred for rehabilitation.

35 suspects who had open warrants for drug offences and 246 suspects who had open warrants for non-drug offences were also among the suspects apprehended.
