Operation Yukthiya Nets 897 Suspects in 24 Hours

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's ongoing "Operation Yukthiya" has yielded significant results, with another 897 suspects apprehended within the past 24 hours. 

The intensive operation culminated at 12:30 am today.

The Ministry of Public Security confirmed that detention orders were secured against 24 of the arrested individuals.

19 identified drug addicts were directed to receive proper treatment at dedicated centers.

Striking a blow against organized crime, authorities managed to apprehend 39 suspects listed on the Police Narcotics and Special Bureau's wanted list.

Security forces confiscated quantities of illegal substances during yesterday's operation. Among the seized items were ice, heroin, and cannabis.

Early this morning, during a routine bus inspection on the High Level Road near Hanwella, officers apprehended a suspect carrying a significant amount of cannabis (2.04 kg).

Metiyagoda Police, actively involved in Operation Yukthiya, conducted vehicle checks on the Galle-Colombo main road.

Additional vigilance was observed yesterday at the Hambantota warehouse junction, where thorough inspections were carried out on all long-distance service buses and vehicles entering the area.
