COLOMBO (News 1st): In a bid to curb the rising tide of dengue cases, the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) announced a novel control strategy: releasing Wolbachia-infected mosquitoes in high-risk areas of Colombo.

The research-level program aims to explore the effectiveness of this innovative method in suppressing mosquito populations and, consequently, reducing dengue transmission.

The number of daily dengue cases has alarmingly reached 300,” disclosed Dr. Sudath Samaraweera, Director of the NDCU, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
