COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Power and Energy says that electricity will have to be purchased from private power plants and added to the national grid, in 2024 as well.
Minister Kanchana Wijesekara, in a Tweet, said that notices relevant to the said procedure, have already been published.
The Minister added that the decision was taken as a precaution, as 2024 has already been predicted to be a year with inadequate rainfall.
The Tweet also says that since rainfall was inadequate this year, electricity production had to be limited to a range of 3500-3750 MW hours.
The Minister adds that however, a program is in place to ensure continuous power supply using thermal power.
