World leaders descend on New Delhi for G20 summit

Colombo (News 1st) – U.S. President Joe Biden landed in New Delhi Friday among a host of world leaders who will attend the G20 summit in India’s capital over the weekend.
Other world leaders included UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, EU Commission head Ursula von der Leyen, African Union President Azali Assoumani, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Australia PM Anthony Albanese, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is leading his country’s delegation, as President Vladimir Putin, who has an arrest warrant over the Ukraine War and has not traveled overseas for some time, will not attend.
Leaders of countries that are not part of the G20 but have been invited to attend are also in Delhi, including PM Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh and the PM of Mauritius.
The G20 comprises the world’s 19 largest economies and the European Union which contains 27 countries. India currently has the rotating chairmanship of the G20.
