New program to solve mental health issues of school students

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Health has reached a decision to commence a new program to solve mental health issues of school students.

The Family Health Bureau said the program will be launched together with the Ministry of Education.

Under this program, teachers will also be given special training to identify children's mental health issues.

The Family Health Bureau said measures will be taken to identify children who suffer from mental health issues and refer them for treatment and counselling.

Psychiatrists said school students face many mental health issues in recent days.

Psychiatrist Dr. Rumi Ruben of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital said excessive anger and lack of knowledge to solve their own mental health issues is a serious concern.
